The 20th LACCEI International Multi-Conference for Engineering, Education, and Technology took place in Boca Raton, Florida from July 18-22, 2022, and was hosted by Florida Atlantic University. The theme was “Education, Research and Leadership in Post-pandemic Engineering: Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Actions”. As part of the conference, there was a poster contest. The poster by Alexandra González Cabrera from the UPR-RP School of Architecture and Elmer Irizarry Rosario from the UPR-M Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying received two distinctions. It was chosen as the most popular poster by those attending the event and the jury also awarded it the second prize. The poster presented the results of their research as part of the RISE-UP program of UPR-M, UPR-RP, and UPR-P.
The work presented is entitled “Ingenuity for Ingenio: Resilient and Sustainable Housing Design Concept for Displaced Communities in Puerto Rico”, where students from the School of Architecture of the UPR-Río Piedras and the Departments of Civil Engineering and Surveying and Electrical Engineering of the Mayagüez Campus developed an interdisciplinary project between students from four emergency homes, with the capacity to function off the grid and additionally operate as a micro-grid. The participating students of the team, in addition to the student Gonzalez-Cabrera and the student Irizarry Rosario, were Natalia Marrero, Andrea P. Maldonado Jaramillo, Mateo I. Muñiz Velázquez, Luz I. Bonilla Ramírez, Jorge Josue Reyes Padilla, and Dem E Santiago. -Santiago.
